European Roulette
Lesson 2 of 12
European Roulette is the most popular version of roulette in Europe and many other parts of the world.
The wheel contains 37 pockets:
• Numbers 1 to 36
• One green zero (0)
This single zero is one of the most important features of European Roulette because it creates a lower house edge than American Roulette.
European Roulette vs. American Roulette
European Roulette:
• 37 pockets
• One zero (0)
• House edge: 2.70%
American Roulette:
• 38 pockets
• Zero (0) and double zero (00)
• House edge: 5.26%
Because of the additional double zero, American Roulette gives the casino nearly twice the mathematical advantage.
For this reason, most experienced players prefer European Roulette whenever possible.
